Helena already answered for you. The difference with these music is that they are produced by dancers, so the music is recorded like it would be played in live performance. There are much more tabla details, some edge - which I love. I just resently performed a lot with CD after years of only having a band and couldn't really use any other type of recordings as I just didn't get any feeling out from them. Salome has my cd in here and there is other information in website: Outi of Cairo

Thank you for the reply I'll definitely check your CD at Salome site, the reason I asked about the differences is. When I lived in Cairo many years ago I worked with several record companies -"morefon" is one of it on longer in business - who produced everything under the sun. My part was to produce the tapes jacket and usual I took pictures of famous dancers with their permissions to use on the tapes and that was the extent of their involvement. I guess things have really changed nowadays, I think this might be a better true dancing music but I'm sure it's a headache to produce. By the way I checked also your site and you listing some of the picture as taken by Mahmoud Reda is that the famous reda group or just a photographer with the same name ?

I have a subscription to Rhapsody.com. It lets you listen to as much of whatever you want while you are online, then you pay so much per a track that you download to CD or MP3. To promote different types of music, they put together lists of music. And right now they are featuring some great Iranian music. I know you can use the service for free for fourteen days or something like that. If you do that, go to the tab titled "Central Playlist" then click on the last 'dash' underneath the central picture. The name of the playlist is "That Pop Star is Looking At Me Funny" and is: Global Sounds: Dig into this exquisite, very listenable mix of pop and Persian classical music.
If you are looking for something specific, you can find music by artist, track, album, or keyword. Or you can browse songs by looking here: Music Guide > World/Reggae > Middle East Listen to it, and if you like it, buy it. And, yes, they do have Oum Kalthoum! ![]() I have really enjoyed this service, as I live in a smallish town and this is about the only way I can listen and buy ME music. |

So many things are not changed. As myself, Yasmina, Laila and Diana Tarkhan - we are all foreigners. Katia as well as Samasem and Nesma have recorded their music - again foreigners. The Egyptian dancers don't really produce cds. Some of their music which they use when traveling and sell for students are copied from other cds. That's whole other thing. Some of Raqia Hassan's music is recorded for her in a studio some are not. Most of the Egyptian teachers use copies. Quote:

hi
![]() i just bought one called "Sweet Fruits for Heavenly Hips With Tina Enheduanna_ Living Acoustic Percussion for Bellydanceteaching & Practice". you can buy either the cd or for half the price you can buy the mp3 of the cd off of amazon.com. firstly it has great slow rhythms for the beginner and some w/slow-medium rhythm to help edge you on (so you don't get stuck in just the slow speed of your movements), and secondly i like it cuz sometimes i like to just practice a particular move for a while (and finally keep up w/some of my bellydance dvd's lol). hth ![]()
