I noticed that a lot of the Tribal Fusionist in my neck of the woods use CDs by Solace.

I love their "Rhythm of the Dance" CD. It starts out with just a simple beat, then adds the accents and other beats to it. So my students can actually hear something like beledi done correctly, as opposed to me attempting to drum it!

It has really helped them to pick out the 'heartbeat' of songs underneath all the other layers. it has Beledi, Chiftteli, and Masmoudi amoung others.

Not only a great educational tool, it is fun to dance to!

*edited to make sense!

I feel like I say this every time, but...

What do you mean when you say tribal?
ATS?
Tribal Group Improv?
Tribal Fusion?
Alternative Fusion?
Something else?

Can you name some troupes or dancers who inspire your aesthetic? Then I can help!

If you're looking for something tribal fusion like, we use a CD in class called "Freek Factory". Sera uses it in her instructional tribal fusion DVD.

Helm
Habi Ru
Americanistan
Gypsy Caravan
Musicians of the Nile
Solace
Dead Can Dance
Sirocco or Armando (Uncle) Maufufo
Light Rain
Oojami

I've heard all of these used by ATS dancers. It depends on what your group is like. ATS usually stays away from classical modern belly dance music, but I wouldn't count it out compleatly.

Knossos is great music for tribal style such as Ariellah's type of dance.

Default not sure if its "tribal"

Im not sure if this is actually tribal but Ive been looking around checking out diffrent music, and have found that the music that really speaks to me is from musicians that have a background both in the ME and here in the states. My two current faves are Badawi, and Djinn. I strongly suggest anyone check these out. Also I have recently been turned on to a local band called Audio Budda. Im not tottaly sure what all of there music is like but what I have heard I like.
If any one is familiar with these bands and has suggestions for otheres I should check out Id love to hear them.
