Oh, where can I start!!!!
First of all, this entire series: Jalila's Raks Sharki jalilah Number 4 is rhythm identification, and not music per se, but it will be VERY helpful in your journey. And I simply adore: Various Artists - A Tribute to Oum Kalthoum #01CV1000051 Dahlal Internationale : Music (Darn it the link didn't work -- search for Amani on this page) (the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th ones on that page are lovely.) The Bellydance Superstars cds are pretty good too, although the more recent volumes are mostly pop music. Same for Desert Roses and Arabian Rhythms. I think there are about 5 in each series. These: Dahlal Internationale : Music are nice and dreamy and lovely and lyrical. (Search for Beata and Horacio on this page) |

If you're a beginner, you might pick up a best of Hakim cd. Those songs sound a lot like Western pop music and might be easier to dance to at first.
A lot of forum members are sick of hearing Hakim, but I still like him! If you want, I'll send you my beginner choreography to "Talakik" if you PM me with your email address. (that applies to anybody, but you may have to "translate" my notes!) |

Hakim is fine!! Just not all the time.
I'm enjoying some of the great Natacha Atlas tracks on her 'Best of Natacha Atlas' album. I also like any of the Bellydance Superstars albums, although they're quite commercial they have a good range of different types of songs. I've got both of these off emusic.com - it's got a monthly subscription fee, or you can buy per track. Completely legal too!
