I am so thrilled! I bought a copper tabla last week, and I've been trying to learn how to play it. I can do a basic Saidi(Of course, I'm the Saidi junkie), and a chiftetelli so far. I can't get the beledi rhythm or Maksoum yet. I get the "doums" and "teks" backwards.
Who do you all suggest for drum instruction? I need someone who breaks it down very simply, 'cause I'm a savant. Mary Ellen, perhaps? |

Congratulation hadassah... we would love to hear your experience with Tabla, In south asia we refer the sound(from Tabla ) as "Bol" ,If you know the basic of Tabla the following link can be a help for you, although Its all about Indian style and i am not sure if Indian Gharana (Style) is different to middle eastern style of playing.
