My teacher likes to dance to a modern version of "Ave Maria" -- even as an ex-Catholic, it doesn't feel quite right for me!

LOL Lydia - knowing that even dancers from over there can too have those 'oops' moments does make me feel a bit better, I admit - silly, I know . This is a great subject to discuss, I'm hoping more people will jump in with stories and advice.

Cripes! That's even a bit iffy for Muslims as the Virgin Mary (Mariam) is revered as the mother of a prophet in Islam.

Yes, it's definitely odd. I think my teacher simply thinks of it as beautiful music, nothing more.

Even if you use instrumental version, the arabic speaking audience WILL know the words - and propably sing-along.

in recent years i came acros some very very nice music (instrumental) mostly done in the US....by artist like brian keene, and omar faruk tekbilek,....and some song you can hear in the far background the call for prayer for moslims...so this kind of music can get a dancer realy in trouble in the middle east...you must have a trained ear do to hear realy the piece inside the music that i talk about ,,,But i love the music that they make....Lydia
