Hi Janaki,

Unfortunately I don't have the Journey of the gypsy dancer album. I'll try and see if I can get a hold of the song though.

Anyone else?

Hi Janaki,

you could upload the mp3 if you like. That would come in handy. If I don't know which rhythm it is, maybe when the mp3 is up, somebody else could provide some clarification too. That might really help.

I'll look forward to the mp3.
Thanks!

I'm working on that piece myself right now, and as soon as I finish working it out I will post what I have, so anyone who has more info can correct my mistakes.

The track starts out with some variations of masmoudi.

The first major rhythm change is to a 6/8 of some kind. Don't know the name of it, but this section is unusual not only because of the 6/8 but because the phrasing falls in groups of 3 or 6 measures, which is very unusual. Usually Middle Eastern music has phrases of 4 measures, including most pieces I have heard with 6/8 or other unusual time signatures.

I don't have this track on my home computer, but I think it is more or less like the version on 1001 nights. After the 6/8 section it goes back to masmoudi
