Default Greek Music

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for Greek music. Classical songs that elderly Greeks would enjoy as well as more contemporary music for a mixed CD I have to make. Thanks in advance! :-D

Contact Maria Aya, she is our lovely knowledgeable Greece resident dancer. I believe one of her students has a lot of knowledge about music. You could PM her.

Specifically for a lively restaurant. Their exact quote was 'make it OPA!!!'

I have worked in a Greek Restaurant before, so I have a few ideas for songs, but that restaurant provided music. The current one asked me to choose the music. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. :-D

P.S. Yes, for dancing only.

I don't know about the OPA-factor, but there are two classics which there are many versions of and which everybody knows...

Default Make it OPA!

You made my day!

There is so much music i cannot pick up some, but, anyway, you may search youtube or the web for songs by the following

1) for modern style Greek music

a) Eleftheria Arvanitaki (Ελευθερία Αρβανιτάκη)
YouTube - ????????? ?????????? - ??????
YouTube - ????????? ?????????? - ?? ?????? ??? ?? ????????
YouTube - tou pothou t'agrimi-eleftheria arvanitaki

b) Melina Kana (Μελίνα Κανά)
YouTube - MELINA KANA-DESOLATE BODIES
YouTube - Melina Kana - Ah na perasei o piretos
YouTube - ???? ?????? ~ ???? ??? ???????? (dedicated by its composer Thanassis Papakonstantinou to dancers!)

c) Leonardos Bournelis (Λεονάρδος Μπουρνέλης)
YouTube - ?? ?????????? ??? ?????????.wmv

2) for old style-rebetiko music

a) any song composed by Panagiotis Tountas (Παναγιώτης Τούντας)
YouTube - Marika Politissa - Ghi' afto foumaro kokaini (1932)
YouTube - ??????? ??????? "??? ????? ? ??????????"

b) any song by Marika Politissa (Μαρίκα Πολίτισσα), Roza Eskenazy (Ρόζα Εσκενάζυ) and Rita Abatzi (Ρίτα Αμπατζή) who have been great rebetiko singers

YouTube - Marika Politissa - Passalimaniotissa (1929)
YouTube - Marika Politissa - Ta tsachpinika sou matia (1929)
YouTube - Min Orkizese vre Pseftra - Roza Eskenazi
YouTube - Lili i Skandaliara - Roza Eskenazi
YouTube - Rita Abatzi - Katinaki mou ya sena (1933)
YouTube - Feretzes / Seni Gordukce Greek Turkish Shared Musics

I picked up songs that can be bellydanced, but with the same names you can find other types of music and dance for which Greek people can shout opa!!

Enjoy!

PS/Especially about rebetiko songs, many of them exist in their Turkish version, as well. The last one by Rita Abatzi is one of them...
