going through a similar situation.
She also loves to dance.
She loves the music & the costumes, and is so confident when dancing. It's just beautiful to see.
But kid's can be very cruel.
We just try to instill in her to be confident within herself, and turn the other cheek.
She does this very well.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Oriental dance. Are you learning with a teacher, or are you dancing for yourself? Both are totally cool!!!
It's lovely to just chill out and dance, and it's also really good to learn some techniques from someone who has the experience.
It's nice to get together with other people who have the same interest(thank goodness for this site)
You said that you can overdo it a bit at times, remember to totally warm up, loads of stretching and cool down with lot's of stretching also. (yoga's great)
