My apologies if you've already been subjected to this on bhuz...
I recently had this idea that it would be really cool if I could decorate the new saidi dress I bought with silver coins from dancers all over the world. I mean, most of us have coins lying around that have fallen off one hip scarf or another. Probably I should have gotten a head start by picking up coins other dancers lost at the workshop I was at LAST WEEKEND (when I actually got the idea), but I didn't want to embarass myself by being obvious. Anyways, the problem with my idea is that I don't know dancers from all over the world...I don't even know dancers from all over Korea...so instead of embarassing myself by picking up coins off the floor, I'm doing it by begging (oh, the fun anonymity of the internet - I promise I'll upload my picture soon so you can get a more complete mental picture of this process). If there's anyone out there who has a silver coin lying around that they aren't going to use and don't mind parting with, I'll trade you for it. My original thought was that I could swap you a coin for a postcard, but it could be a coin for a coin, or something else. What do you think? |

Sounds like a fun idea! Why dont you start a blog with reports of places you got the coins from? Unfortunatly all my coins are in gold.... dunno if THAT would help... oh and I think the coins are from Egypt...LOL I will look out for silver ones though....

Let me see what I have. I KNOW I have some silver coins from some places I've visited.
Are you looking for one of each kind? What about sizes? In the US, we have a 25 cent piece and a 10 cent piece, the size and the weights are different. Does that matter? Azeeza |

Thanks Reen and Azeeza!
Reen, I'll definitely be writing a blog about all the places (and dancers!) the coins come from. I might be able to use a few gold coins - right now it's a work in progress :-D Azeeza, I'm kind of looking for costume weight coins, you know, like they put on hip scarves - I've actually been collecting coins from the different countries I've been to (some day I'm going to make the COOLEST coin belt), but I'm afraid if I tried using them they would be too heavy for the assuit fabric of the dress. I don't mind if the coins were all manufactured in the same country, I just sort of liked the idea of knowing that a part of my dress came from different belly dancers. |

I think its a great idea ,i can send you some ,but what about the post???? coins will be detected its from a metal is it not?? and perhaps they are thinking i am sending you a bomletter LOL...but i thik its a realy nice idea...i worked years ago with a lady in the theater in Baghdad she was from spain she was doing a magic show with her husband, and she was asking all the other artist to sign their name on a big white tablecloth...she hade done this for many years on the same tablecloth, and then she would make the signature a piece of art by making embrodery on top,so she hade this tablecloth full of names from people she worked with treu the years,i tought its a great idea a tablecloth full of souvenirs so you remember all your friends that you worked with....so perhaps you can mark the coins that you get and you have a ,,friendly,,costume...goodluck and i will send you coins when you are ready to go...have a great day Lydia

I just found a postcard from Korea and some coins in my maibox. Meaning, the coins went through and Muneera got them
![]() Looking forward to pics of the dress!

I also received a post card and some coins- have never seen Korean money, so those coins were especially cool. Hope the ones I sent got through, Muneera. They made quite a lump in the envelope.
