Hmm... crop tops are iffy for me too. The only guy I could think of what would pull it off is ROBBIE WILLIAMS!
Love that guy, just watched his live show thing. There was one clip I saw of a bare chested dancer with pants on- - and then instead of anything sparkly or glittery, he had a belt on but it was very earthy looking, and I thought that looked really good and he pulled off the masculine look too.

For newcomers to this thread. This started in a sort of jest or lighthearted way in the debate forum. Since it isn’t a debate (yet anyway!!!) I moved it to the male dancers forum.

(ssshhhh - I don't think they've seen us yet!)
As for the MALE BELLY DANCERS SHOULD NOT WEAR CROP TOPS bit... personally I find the really androgynous costumes a bit off-putting. Give me Asi in his robes and eyeliner any day... ![]() |

I dont know what to say about this issue....last week i was reading the other threat about maledancers and members even arguing about what is good and not good about it ,feminine ,parfum ,tops and yes or not acceptable and what people in the middle east are thinking about enz. ....why are we doing this??I also like to see man like a real man, strong and manlike the stereo type...But we are all artist we all entertain people,we are there to make people happy and smile .....i dont care if a man is dancing and what he wears aslong if he is a good entertainer and dont look sleezy its is fine by me....but i think the same about us female dancers....do a good show and respect yourself,on and of stage..and bdw i have seen many great maledancers and please dont let us pick on other artist this forum was such a great place.........we have a million other things to talk about ,the world is full of people arguiing about all kind of things, please let us not be one of them.we are all artist and we share the same spirit and the same love what is DANCING ....this is my opinion....have a great day.and happy dancing Lydia

hmm crop tops ay?
Nice post Lydia!
Yes too many problems in the world to make this an issue. but although I personally do not wear 'crop tops' as many seem to be calling them, I have spoken to many male dancers who have told me mainly the same thing that alot of women tell me when I ask why they do not put an abundant amount of beads to cover their stomach like many of the traditional dancers. "The audience can't see our stomach movements" :p ...I agree... yes, I do not overly exhibit my stomach to my audience, and although doing this is to my detriment as about 35% of my act now days has been expressed through my abdominal muscles (and yes i am understanding now why many Belly dancers have pot bellies. ) but matter of personal taste has stopped me from wearing costumes that show my belly. But i do understand why males and females alike would want to show it off while dancing. After all, the modern form of belly dance has evolved to use the abdominals much, much more then the older, classical versions. As for makeup... I do not wear it. My decision! I do not need to enhance my features, and I do not have blemishes that pronounce every crevasse of my face. I am after all, a male. If I found it necessary to wear eyeliner and foundation, why stop there? I might as well have donned a female costume and gotten acrylics!!!! :p Rest assured, this is not every M.BD’s stance on the matter of course. -Jamil- |
