I think you're right about the beduin background to this dance, I don't know about the relationship to the bird. It could be very well that's how it originally started. But we commonly used it in the term of hopping in so many ways.

Here is an Egyptian proverb I thought you might find interesting

"Awel el raqs hangalah"

Masrawy,

I thank you for your gracious apology, though I did come to understand what I was thinking perhaps did not come across how I intended, so can understand some of the response. Sometimes I can be eloquent in speech, other times obviously not, it goes with the mood.

But, yourself, with such a command of a language which is not your own, I very much admire you for your ability, as I cannot speak another language, but I do understand English being a rather messed up language, it just has to be difficult to learn, and words, phrases used just have to cause confusion and there misunderstanding. Even punctuation, that can change the meaning of a sentence, if it is not used correctly.

In this country, with our language, we even have regional accents which for someone in one part of the country may have difficulty understanding another in another part of the country because of the accent. Say if you heard the speech from all of us here from Britain, though we speak the same language, I guarantee you would not understand some of us, or even all of us.

Mahmoud, I enjoy your posts here, your insight and help, it is good for all of us so interested in your land of birth and environs, you are a worthy ambassador for your birth country and an excellent translator for us others who wish to learn more about Middle Eastern culture.

Yes, thanks to Tarik too, his analytical approach often reveals more in most things.

Kindest Regards,

Khanjar
