Default Piercings and other jewelry

Hey guys! As a newbie to the dance scene and all, and as someone who has his navel pierced, I was wondering what ideas people have about piercings and other jewelry on male dancers. Pictures and descriptions would totally be appreciated, since I think this could be a fun thing to discuss!

DaVid has his navel pierced - I'd like to, but have heard and seen that it takes 1.2 forevers to heal.

I do, of course, have my ears pierced (once per lobe) - earrings are a TON of fun! Many males do not "do" earrings, or if they do they only wear studs or little hoops - I wear mostly large to huge dangles, even in mundane life.

Its a personal decision.

That depends on your definition of forever, I guess. The first time I did it, I was 15, and it took about a month before it healed. When I had it re-done at 24, (I took it out when it was becoming extremely popular when I was 18,) it took about two and a half months to fully heal, though okay, I was bad and changed the ring before then, since I HATED the huge thing they put in there to start me off. There's now real meaning behind it since re-doing, (long story, sort of,) so I don't plan on taking it out, and I have a lot of different fun rings for it. Of course, I don't know how appropriate any will be for any sort of dance, however...

There are two piercings I want, and again like the tat, they will have to wait until I have the funds available and the nerve. I have not been pierced before, not even ears, but it holds a fascination for me, almost like a rite of passage, belated perhaps, but something I want. The area I wished pierced is nipples, well before you say urgh, on a male, nipples have got to have some use.

Perhaps part of my tardiness in getting this done, is the fact that I am a very cautious person and I am not likely to do something rash until I have explored all angles. When I do go for this thing, I fully intend to follow the piercers advice to the letter.

I have seen nipple piercings go wrong, but that was a person who was over fastidious about cleaning, he went beyond what the piercer advised.

What do you want for the tat? I have a black dragon on my hip, (who could use some touch-up work after thirteen years of being there,) and a large red phoenix on my lower back. As you can tell, I am a big fan of body art!

Watch the nipple piercing though. I was going to get them done until I did the research. Whereas average time for navel piercings to heal is roughly three months, I know that nipples are prone to pus for about a year; I am not willing to go through constantly cleaning them several times a day for a full year. I'll just get another tat instead! ^_^

Do you have ideas for dance-related nipple rings though?

I've heard/seen navel piercings take 9 months to a year to heal... *shrug*

Tell me about your tat experience - especially the lower back one - I'm getting one there for my 50th, about 2 years away.

The one on my lower back was actually a good experience. Keep in mind, I do have a high tolerance for pain, so at the very worst, (when the needle was directly above bone,) it was like getting a paper cut. Now, here's the funny part. I have just enough fat on my body, at least I did at the time, (I've since dieted and exercised most of it off,) that the vibrations from the needle vibrated the fat, and it REALLY tickled! I giggled, and the dude actually stopped for a minute, looking at me funny and telling me that he has never had anyone have that reaction before. My guy is really awesome with colour as well, which you don't always find. If you're looking for a person to do your tats, make sure to look through their book well. Here's actually a pic of the tat being done, and a pic of right afterward.

Did you have any specific questions? I am more than happy to answer what my experience was like, but I am not sure what else what you're looking for.

I have some piercings and tats - i have my ears, currently done twice in each ear, recently a third hole was added, but i had an interview and while the rings were out, they closed. My second holes are 12 gauge, and my primary holes are currently a 6 gauge (I think its a 2 mm eyelet, so you can see through it, sort of), working down to a 0 or a 00.

I've had, in my time, most of my piercable appendages done, and the belly ring took about a month and a half to heal, but i was doing heavy combat in the SCA, so my kidney belt kept irritating it.

Its a not-too-hard piercing - it aches a bit, then you forget it until it shifts and re-starts the aching. As long as you use a good soap and keep it clean, it should not give you problems - when I get mine re-done, i'll probably go dance with it that night.

Naw - I'm just asking anyone/everyone who has a lower back tat about their experience - I research everything to death before I do it (like I did with Belly Dance, earrings - everything!). I'm told the new pneumatic guns hurt a LOT less - and the gal I'm planning on having do my tat uses one; so that's a good thing (I think!).

Hahaha, that sounds all too familiar, mind it is always best to know what the pitfalls are before one does something.
