He is fun... I would never ever call it bellydance, but I like watching him do his thing. I am amazed by the precision he does things with!

I looked at another clip as staged dance and the comments were 'it didnt match', 'not the right style' etc.
So i look at this as a belly dance act and thought... nah! not belly dance, more like break dance. No wonder I am totally confused.

I wonder weather a break-dancer would look at it and think “this is really belly dance” whereas with us it would be the reverse, like “he is really break-dancing”.

I think it is both, maybe intentionally, but perhaps not.
His background in break-dance is very obvious.

Default Belly dance?????

Dear Gang,
....Oddly enough, he looks like a lot of the Pop/Lock kings and queens today, who claim to be "belly dancing". The only difference is that he appears to be better trained as a dancer than many others! LOL!!! This is one of the best fusions I have seen. If he is calling it "belly dance" though, then I hate it!!!!!!!!! For me , it all depends on truth in labeling.
Regards,
A'isha

I liked it for the most part. Very athletic dancer, well trained, the choreography was fun...

Well, they called it belly dance. This is the problem I keep talking about. The dance has been taken so far out of cultural context for so long that the general public thinks anything with some hip moves with or without Middle Eastern music, is Oriental Dance.

What it is, is fusion and as such, it was very entertaining. He has a lot of potential and could be a very good Oriental dancer, provided he has access to a teacher who really knows what it is. I've had heated discussions with guys like this in the past as to why this kind of stuff is NOT Oriental dance, but its like walking up an icy hill. All I can say is be prepared for a lot more. All we can do is continue to do our thing and keep the integrity of the dance, while educating the public
