Default Inspirations and thoughts on mens costumes?

This may have been here many times before so forgive me if you have been around this many times!

Following thoughts and discussion from other threads, I was wondering about expectations of the male dancers costumes and the ideas and inspirations for them etc.

What a nice idea. I am tempted to snab it up for the costumes section! How about it, guys? What inspires you? Where do you get your costumes? Does anyone but Zorba sew?

No idea, I was watching this to see what people more acquainted would come up with.

Sew, I have made clothes before, period costume, leather wear, armour.

I make jewellery chain mail and scale mail, so can make metal I might require if I get that far into this.

Scale; (jingles and shimmers like fish scale)

This example in anodised alluminium, about 3.75 pound

Chain maille; (open weave, no jingle but light weight) ;

Hahaha, well surmised Shanazel, the equivalent and in the past. Though, for the next three years, it is my project at art college, an idea to use ancient armour as fashion, club wear, or flexible jewellery. The latter idea came from viewing a BD costumery site, the chain things worn on the back of the hand, what wonderful jewellery that would make. Just so you know what kind of nutter I am, I have already worn a chain maille shirt to a club.

I take inspiration from a variety of sources:

Fashion (couture to street), belly dancers (female and male), ballroom, nature, etc.

I watch ballroom competitions on TV as well as fashion shows and do quick sketches of outfits I like. I place them in an inspiration book along with magazine cuttings, fabric swatches, etc.

I tend to go for a more flashier and more feminine approach to costuming. I also make or have a tailor make all of my costumes. However, I do all my beading using only the best materials and techniques. I've stopped wearing harem pants completely unless in a folkloric tableaux.
