Dear Serkan, Gee, it seems to me that this is rather sexist. Why are there no females? This is one of my big worries with males dancing, is this kind of exclusionary stuff, which is clearly happening already. I am sure I will receive some hateful responses for daring to say something but I hope people will really understand what is happening here. A'isha Azar |

)? And when we talk about sexism, there are so many female belly dance teachers who don't accept men as students, do you think, this is less sexist? Sorry, but I think one can overdo it with the political correctness. Relax and enjoy the gentlemen on stage![]()

Dear Cryssanthi, Here are the things that are wrong about having an all male belly dance event: * It definately is not at all representative of the realities of the dance scene. That much testosterone on the stage will be totally misrepresentative of the dance. * Seeing how many of the female audience respond to just one male on stage, I cringe at thinking how much we will have to hear after about how much "better" the male dancer are than females, which has not basis in truth at all. This judgement will be based on the crazed response from the women, no matter the quality of the performances. * This will be very sexist in that the men will be treated, as usual, more like novelty items, or worse, like the Chippendale dancers, which are a male strip group. Women tend to go crazy, not because of the incredible dance ability, but just because they are men. This is not at all fair to the men who are serious dancers, and strokes the egos of those who are bad dancers. * As far as saying that some women do not allow men in their classes and isn't that sexist, too, my response would be, "Do two things wrong make anything right?" I want to thank you for remaining very civil and fair in your response, by the way. Now, my question. What is the point of an all male belly dance show? Regards, A'isha |

First of all hello to everybody!!!
My english are not very good and i dont understand everything but i would like to say my opinion.First of all I would take part in this show but I will speak as Kayammer and not as participant.I think this show has nothing to do with sexism.I agree with Aisha in some points but in different point of view.Too much times the audience had face me as a 'stripper'(and believe me this is bad)in all kind of shows. And the thing about the quality is the same also in female shows.People who know about belly dance and be there will understand what is good and what is bad.And why a man must dance through 10-20-30...women and be "the surprise of the night" which give him extra points? In my opinion it's just marketing.and why not?why the BDSS has to be all beautifull and thin and no other woman has the chance to be in the group?(even if she is a great dancer)Why all the belly dancers in Egypt must have plastic boobs and come in the stage almost naked?why ?why? There is no why.Bellydance for the audience is a show. And showbusiness always like this...this is my opinion with respect to all of you Greetings from Greece

Dear Prince Kayammar, First, I want to say that your English is much better than most of our Greek. Please correct me if I misunderstand you, but I get the feeling that you are saying this is a marketing scheme??? And.... I must say that I have many times been in a room full of female belly dancers who scream their heads off and clap their hands off for a male dancer who is no better than average, and not nearly as good as many women on stage who get a smaller applause. What I see is that very often when males take the stage, dancers will not respond according to what is good or bad, but respond instead to the gender of the dancer. This is just one reason why I am against all male review type shows. Regards, A'isha |

CAN'T I REP YOU!!! Prince Kayammar, I saw you at the Nile Group on the open stage and I thought you were superb - one of the very few men I have seen dancing "like a man" (Zorba, don't hate me!) and worthy of the women going crazy - for your dance abilities, rather than the "novelty" of you being a male! I also liked that you just danced, without any silly gimmicks to try to rouse the crazed women. I'm still traumatised having watched one male dancer shimmy his butt at a woman sitting crotch-level and that the audience thought this wasn't just acceptable, but worth screaming in delight! I think the idea of an all-male show might be an interesting concept. When the women in the audience have stopped screaming at the "novelty" of men dancing, perhaps they will calm down & enjoy the dancing for what it is ? And there are plenty of shows that choose their participants quite arbitrarily, so choosing participants on gender is just as arbitrary !
