Default Jamil is awesome

hi all,
I am Egyptian and I know what belly dancing is like. Jamil is an awesome professional belly dancer, everything in him is just perfect from head to toe. it is not only my opinion it is the opinion of everyone i know who saw Jamil's dancing. well, ok i know that this is the poster's opinion, but to say that ''he is not a real belly dancer'' is unfair. you are right, Jamil is shaking his body and that's what belly dancing is! he is spontaneous.
you can check out some other male rubbish belly dancing on youtube where dancers move exactly like women not aware of the physical differences. in my opinion, i believe that Jamil is the best belly dancer i've ever seen. i just love him!

Hi Heba,

I am Egyptian, too.

Welcome to the forum. If you'd like, you can post more about yourself in the meet and greet section. Happy posting!

Dear Heba,
Can you elaborate on why you consider Jamil to be a dancer of professional quality? I agree that to say he is not a real dancer is completely unfair because I believe that real dancers are born with the real dancing in their souls and bodies. He is indeed a real dancer. However, as a dancer of 34 years and a teacher for 32, I see him as a dancer with a great deal of potential. He could be fantastic after some good classes and more experience in the dance, but he is not yet a professional quality belly dancer when he is side by side with many others. He might be a great shaabi dancer. There really is a difference between professional dance and amateur dance. And.... there is much more to belly dancing than just shaking your body. If you are a dancer, then you know this to be true. If you are not, then it might not be so obvious.
Regards,
A'isha

I just watched this clip of Jamil and thought he was good.
I dont really see the point of analysing him too much unless he has asked for it, or he is a teacher and professional performer? is he either? I dont know.
He was good and perhaps the arms were relaxed but at least he didnt look like he just stepped out of a ballet class.

Mark, Why were you surprised at his lack of clothing? I didnt think it was this little. OK, uncovered for Islam perhaps but so is any dancer. It is all Haram.
Are you not Arab? I saw a youtube clip of you considerably less? I imagine it was a pleasant surprise for you?

Arabs growing up in the West often have more freedom than Arabs in the Arab world (some dont of course).
It depends on the family and family culture.

Ana humara!

The above post should say 'wearing considerably less'.

Well, clothes were invented for a reason. It's not unusual when different human beings around the world find the lack of clothing surprizing.

The point of the analysis is that he is a peformer, and he did ask for it soon as he went out to perform in public.

Regards to being uncovered as "haram" in Islam, ***shock*** Christians in Egypt find being uncovered inappropriate, too! In general, Egyptian people are religous, this includes Christians, they go to church 3 times a week and fast 200 days out of the entire year. And I don't think any of the religions say it's okay to walk around naked.
Of course cultural upbringing (or the lack of) plays a role as well in what people perceive not to be appropriate. There are many Westerners that do not grow up with any culture or traditions. Therefore, nothing is seen as "3aib", I'm not sure if this word even translates into english. Culturally "Shameful" would be close but it doesn't give the exact meaning.

"Arabs" in the West, just like "Arabs" in the East, cannot be all lumped into the same category. Some imigrants (especially 2nd and 3th generations) become fully integrated into the society of the "new" country, forgeting the language and everything about their countries of origin, while others prefer to live in all-Arab communities and this often means a much smaller community where everyone watches everyone else.

Not usually in dance.

Ok, fine. I wasnt sure and I did say this. If he was a guy who was in training and was filmed at a haflah, then there is no point in being hard on him.

Yes, I know but this is a dance forum and we are talking about dance costumes. Both men and women wear far less, including Arabs who dance in the Arab world.

Which is why I said it depends on the family and family culture.

concerning lack of clothing, mm lack of clothing for men is not that frowned upon here especially in the city.
