As about male costumes around the world: most dancers I've seen have something like two piece costume. A bolero and pants. Some Turkish dancers have very opulent costumes (for example "Prince" Erkan Serge. His costumes used to be opulent at the beginning of the 90ies. Now they are partially simple, partially opulent. Have a look at his pic gallery: SimpleViewer ), but most male belly dancers have simpler costumes than female dancers. In Greece the average male costume is indeed only pants and scarf (or belt) and naked upper body. Well some guys wear also some kind of jewelry.

Sure you can. Go for it Zorbas
Now seriously, I also adore jewelry. For me jewelry is something divine. Don't get me wrong, I don't love expensive jewelry. I wouldn't ever want to have real diamonds, because they would make me feel unfree (be afraid all of the time that they could get stolen). I love beautiful, sparkling jewelry ![]()

) maybe he has some Lazi blood...Anyway I have seen very different kind of costumes with Turkish male dancers: e.g. Orgun from Marmaris used to dress like woman in the beginning of his career but nowadays has simpler and more masculine style which can be seen at the YouTube clips of him. Another great male dancer from Marmaris, Aykut, has always worn quite simple outfits consisted of harem pants, vest and turban but quite common seems to be bare-chested... |
