Thanks for explaining and the pics Venefica. I have seen a part of this dance in a commercial, years ago, and then I thought it was some East Europian dance and not Norwegian, ooops
![]() (hm, whenever I see folkloric dances I get the idea Dutch folklore has the most stupid dances and the ugliest costumes ) |

I think a bit of it is inspired from polish dances, I have read somthing aboute that, that long ago Norweegian and ploish dancers danced together and influenced one another.
One note, for most folk dances, Norweegians often dance in bunad, the national dress, every district of Norway have their own bunads, they are for women heavy dresses whit linnen skirts, the dresses carrying alot of embrodery, it is also customary to wear special silver jeewlery pices. Men also wear bunad, it is also embordired and dressed in silver but less elaborate than the womens dress. It is customary for Norweegian girls to get a bunad for their confimation. Often the mother of the girl sew and embodery the bunad for the daugther herself as my mother did mine. It is worn at big events, like the natrional day 17 of may, may get married in bunad, and it is an aceptable substitue for a suit for men or evening gown for women in all ocations, if a Norweegian own a bunad they have somthing to dress in for whatever they are going to. Male bunads have been low for a while, but now men to want this outfit and it is increasingly common to see youn Norweegian men at parties in bunads from their home districts. Here are some examples BUNADHJØRNET AS Erling Skjalgsonsgate 4 4306 Sandnes tlf 51667866 But how pepole can dace in such heavy, warm outfits are byond me.

Dear Venefica.
Thank you very much for sharing the pictures and the video The bunad looks a bit like the German "Dirndl". I suppose it is all Germanic tradition Anyway completely different style than the Oriental![]() |
