Default meaning of salamat?

This word crops up now and again in ME songs - can someone tell me what it means?

I should probably already know but have resisted looking it up because it means 'thank you' in my mother's language, and that is what it immediately gets translated to in my brain - is it the same meaning in Arabic?

Default many Hello

Salamat ya maylynn,
Salamat is the plural of the word salm so it means many Hello .. Shalom. It is commonly used as a greeting when people meet after long time, also in many song. I hope this clear it for you. Regards~Mahmoud

Edit: BTW the real meaning of the word Salam is " Peace " but as I said befor it is used for greeting.

Default Salamat

Dear Maylynn,
A Saudi friend of mine also says it to her baby daughter when the child sneezes or coughs...??? I don't know if this is something just she does or if it is a cultural thing. I will have to ask.
Regards,
A'isha

Dear Mahmoud,
She definitely says "Salamat", and she says it with feeling! I think its a sort of silly talk to her child, but I am not sure if it is a cultural Saudi thing or what. I noticed because I though it meant like plural Salaams, and the "at" at the end means more than one of a lot of things in Arabic. Like Shikhat, Baharat, Raqsat, etc. In English, we say "God bless you". I thought it might be the same sort of thing..., like "Many peaces on you", maybe for the same reason we say God bless. I will ask her when I see her next time I see her.
Regards,
A'isha

Dear Aisha, The "at " at the end will make the word plural you are correct, I have no idea why you friend use for god bless you, We'll say "yarhamokem alah". Regards~Mahmoud

Dear Mahmoud,
I did not mean exactly like, "God Bless you, but kind of just along the same reasoning. Can I ask, what is the translation for
"Yarhamokem alah".... is it, like... Blessings from God?
Regards,
A'isha

Default "yarhamokem allah"

Dear Aisha and Reen.Blom
"yarhamokem allah" translate to "may God Marcy be upon you" and usually it is used when some on sneezes. The Merciful is one of Allah (sobhan Allah wa ta'ala) names. This is what we say before we eat or drink(not Alcohol of course) as will as other things.

"In The Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful "

Regards~Mahmoud
