Default Someone translate Lili S'en Fout for me? Also a question about a song I heard?

I absolutely LOVE dancing to this song but I can't find a translation anywhere.

Secondly, I was at a performance last night and a group danced to a song that was Scottish/Arabic (had Highland bagpipes in it and a very Celtic sound). The director of the troupe didn't know what the song was or who did it because it was a gift on a mixed CD...all that's written on the CD is the word 'zag'. Any ideas?

Hi,

I can only translate you the french part for "Lili s'en fout"
The title means : " Lili don't care"

Ça se fait, ça se fait pas,
Je m'en fout.
Cette chanson, que j'écris
Mal assise, ou bien debout

Ça se fait, ça se fait pas, pas, pas
Je m'en fout.
Ça me donne le vertige,
Que dis-je?
Ça se fait, ça se fait pas.

Ça se fait, ça se fait pas, pas, pas
Je m'en fout.

Translation:

It can be done, it can't be done
I don't care.
This song, that I'm writting
Badly sat, or upright

It can be done, it can't be done
I don't care
It make me feel dizzy
What am I saying?
It can be done, it can't be done

It can be done, it can't be done
I don't care

I hope it will help you

Hi!! Thank you! I actually can read French and speak it but for some reason when it's set to music it's harder to figure out.

It's a strange lyric, though, isn't it?

Yeah, I'm not sure that I understand the lyrics, even in french ^^

But it will help if we can understand the other part I think.

Hi Brea,

I don't know the song. If you provide the lyrics, I would be happy to translate the Arabic for you.

Hi Brea,

I don't know the song but now that I've read the lyrics I'd love to hear it! Translations are always difficult so here are my five cents. Perhaps they will help with your interpretation of the song.

The title "Lili s'en fout" is an idiomatic expression which means that "Lili couldn't care less" or Lily doesn't give a damn, and in the context of the song it seems that she can't care less about proper behaviour. She's a cheeky one in other words this Lili girl! She doesn't care about "proper behaviour" or what other people think, and will do what ever she wants when she wants.

Ça se fait, ça se fait pas,
"that's done, that isn't done" The expression "ça ce fait pas" is typical of what you would say to children when teaching them proper behaviour, or when some disapproving person makes a remark about someones inappropriate behaviour. I would therefore interpret this chorus as a mockery of conventions. "Do this, that's okay/don't do that, that's bad. BEHAVE!"

Je m'en fout.
I could'nt care less (about conventions)

Cette chanson, que j'écris
"this song that I am writing"
Mal assise, ou bien debout
look! I'm even writing it while sitting with a bad posture, or, imagine this, standing up (everyone knows that you don't write standing up, but I'm Lili and I couldn't care less about that)

Ça se fait, ça se fait pas, pas, pas
repeat of the above, with emphasis on the "not, not, not (pas)" Perhaps you could do the "no, no gesture" with your finger here? I think that would look good for dramatic effect, but then again I don't know the song.

Je m'en fout.

Ça me donne le vertige,
"It makes me dizzy/gives me vertigo" Perhaps I am overinterpreting, especially since I haven't heard the song, but I would interpret this as "even if i misbehave (according to rules of propriety) and that in itself or what i do makes me dizzy/scared I'll do it anyway.

Que dis-je?
"What am I saying?" Now this one is a little more tricky...I think you will have to listen to the singers interpretation to grasp the exact meaning of this phrase.

Ça se fait, ça se fait pas.

Lili sounds like a strong and independent-minded character, who is quite cheeky. I would suggest a playful femme fatal interpretation of this song, but then again I've only read the lyrics and don't know the music. Perhaps she's just bored with all the know-it-alls. The arabic lyrics might make a big difference as well.

The lyrics remind me of one of my favorite "Pink Martini" songs "Je ne veux pas travailler": I don't want to work, I don't want to eat lunch, I only want to forget, and after that I'll smoke a cigarette."

I'd love to hear this song now! Any idea where I can get a hold of it?

All best,
Freya

hi Freya,
I looked for the song when I was trying to find the lyrics. Here is a website where you can listen to it.

My Reticence: Your Daily Dose of Music

Your interpretation sounds believable. Interesting to see if you change your mind once you hear the song. It sounds like it's more blazé than cheeky but I don't know.

Enjoy the song
