After having heard the actual song for the first time I was about to write it of completely as a disinterested--I'm so void of emotion I couldn't care less if you were run over by a truck in front of me--type of song. The song I heard was non-expressive and I didn't associate it with bellydance. Since Brea likes it so much I decided that there must be another edition of the song out there and there was, and it was good. At least from the thirty seconds I heard The version I liked (from what little I heard) is on the Putomayo collection CD and not on the CD with the industrial looking cover.

I had to do a little search Gisela because I could not access the music from the link you sent for some reason (a Mac/PC problem?). Gisela, from the thirty seconds that I heard I agree with you. She sounds more blasé than cheeky. Blasé...how French... I think I fell in love with my own interpretation of the (written) text so I was a little disappointed when I heard the actual song, but now I'm over it and I like it. I think I might just have to go out and find it

Thanks everyone! I was gone a long time so I didn't see all these responses! I absolutely ADORE this song and I wish there were more like it. I dance to it quite frequently and never get tired of hearing it. However, the Arabic lyrics would be wonderful to have translated so we would know more...

Yes, I believe the copy I have is from the Putomayo CD.
