Hi everyone,
This week I start my first dance classes in this area! I am nervous and excited. It's strange...no matter how long I teach or perform I still get butterflies. Maybe that's what keeps me interested! Do any of you find the same thing? Do the butterflies stay forever?

Congratulations and good luck! And don't worry about the butterflies - it just means that you care! I seem to have the same thing... every time I perform or sub a class for someone I still "panic", but it usually starts just a little bit before the start and goes through the first few minutes. At first I thought it was just because my dance experience is not really that significant, but it also comes out in my volunteer job - I have been designing and conducting quite a lot of trainings, but I still have butterflies every time I step in front of a new group. But I guess that is what keeps us going, huh?

I'm really looking forward to meeting you, KuteNurse!
I think I just get all spun up...thinking 'oh but what if I don't know enough, or someone asks me about *whatever* and I don't know it!' I have to remember it's not my job to know absolutely everything. I had a student today in my university dance class and it was her absolute first time. It's odd how it seems so natural to do these moves now and I get the idea that it's simple, but watching someone first trying to learn reminds me that I do know a lot and I shouldn't worry so much! ![]()

I know from experience being a newer student, what I am looking for is for having fun and learning to relax and forget about daily stresses. Concentrate on helping your students feel comfortable during the first class/es. This will make it more enjoyable for everyone.

Well the class was a great success! Everyone applauded me- twice! That has never happened before.
Everyone was very positive and there were so many people I ended up having to turn some down because there was no more room! Plus I got to meet KuteNurse which was great fun; I hope we'll be able to talk more soon.

It was great meeting you too Brea. We should get coffee or something. When you get your puppy and and he/she is old enough to go to dog park, let me know. Are you planning on going to the belly dance show next Saturday? My friend Carey and I want to go. Also, Robin from your class is interested in going and she wants me to call her with the info. If you want to go with us if you do not having other plans, you are welcome. |
