Dear Brea, If your boyfriend immediately puts an application in for copyright with a COLLECTION of his music, then he will own the rights to that music, unless he agrees to sell it to a recording company or something. He should take a course on it , and he will be surprised at how many ways it is possible to stretch your copyright $$. Also, the minute he writes it, it is copyrighted to him, but this needs to be done with the little copyright symbol and his name and date. In a court of law, this will not stand up unless he has registered it as copyrighted, however. Regards, A'isha OH, and PS: Copyright legal issues are federal issues, and so the amount of $$ to have your case heard are stupendous. Often, real artists who pursue their cases against prestigous instuitutions or magazines, etc. will lose because they can not afford to pursue it. Last edited by Aisha Azar; 03-05-2008 at 06:22 PM. |

A'isha-
He's not a musician, he's a sound engineer. He makes albums for people. That's where he gets his information I suppose. I do understand what you are saying, however, about making sure that you are following the copyright laws.

Er.... I don't recall saying that people should "follow the copyright laws", but they definitely should know them! Regards, A. |

Something like this may be just what I need! Since I teach through the local Parks & Rec, and on city property, I can not legally sell anything--not music, hip scarves, or anything. And since we are in a small town, I have to tell my students to check the internet, or go to the one store that may have some ME music in the world section, if you riffle through all the Celtic and Reggea. But I do have an elist....I could post something like the list you are referring to there, so they could download the music legally. ![]() I know a lot of burning goes on, and while I can understand it sometimes, I don't really care for it. Legal aspects aside, if the artist doesn't get paid for their work, they won't make any more great music! Thanks!: Last edited by Jet Phoenix; 03-05-2008 at 11:56 PM. Reason: spelling! |

My teacher makes a list and hands out in class. All information is on there, name, artist, from which album etc. She also writes suggestions on where you can get it from.
She used to make compilations for each new term but not anymore. I think this is definitely a good way to do it.

Welcome to the wonderfull different CD-World of Greece and Egypt !!!
Joking, but the things are different over here. First of all, in Cairo in CD stores 80% of the CD's or DVD's are copies!! In Greece every corner they sell copies of CD's. Why we buy them? well we just cant find the CD's we want from stores !! If its illegal? yes and no. I will be in heaven the day that i will have named with title and artist and band all my songs, but i know this will not happen. So yes I copy CD's for my students, (not sell them to them) and this is the way they get music educated. Sorry guys things are different here. Maria Aya |

Hey Maria, the CD world in Ecuador is exactly the same as you describe, however the dance school I mentioned in my previous post, does sell the CDs to the students and makes its own covers, with the instructor´s pictures and the school´s logo, plus that horrendous voice recording on each song.
At least the CDs we can get on the streets and in stores have copies of the original album covers, so we know the performers and artists that perform the songs, although I know this does not make buying illegal copies right But that is a whole other story, that has to do with a different economy...Last edited by Ecuabellydancer; 03-06-2008 at 02:13 PM. Dear Ecuabgellydancer, There is no international copyright law, so a pirated copy in one country is perfectly legal while in another it is not. There are some countries that have agreements with other countries about intellectual property, and I hear that the Arabian Gulf is busy trying to make an intellectual property legal code, or may have done so by now since it was some time ago that I read this. Recommended songs for Bellydance: Amazon.com: Khatwat Habibi: MP3 Downloads: Mohamed Abdelwaheb and list your faves. On Itunes you can make a playlist and share it with others. Both sources offer a LOT of bellydance music, and they add to it all the time. Plus you can hear short samples of the songs to see if they're too synthesizer-y or not And of course, you can browse OTHER songs from the CD or other playlists, or check out "similar items." It's really a great resource. ANd yes -- it's totally free to create a playlist. They only charge you when you actually buy the song -- and Itunes keeps a record of it in case you ever lose the file, so you can re-download it again. |
