Hi Khaira, yes it's practically down the road for me, but I'm dithering about booking. I'm having my knee investigated, and the way it's working out some surgeon might decide he wants to be having a poke about under my kneecap just about then.

I just spoke to Melissa, who performed in the show tonight. It sounded excellent, Asmahan, Lubna, Khazafy, Khaled and his troupes, Oriental Dancer's own Khaira and Pille from Estonia, Angela Wooi and a new UK dancer called Steve (who was fantastic, apparently), amongst others.
So, a fabulous show (another to follow on Saturday night) and a great new male dancer! ![]() |

I got more info about the weekend in a four-hour phone call last night!
![]() I'm so sorry I couldn't go, the shows sound utterly amazing, more like the quality of shows I've seen in Scandinavia. Last year's show was great, just a few performers who let the side down but they were culled for this year (mercy killings ). The Estonian girls were very busy, coming here early to learn group choreographies just for the shows! Your group dances sound wonderful, I hope the show was videoed. I look forward to Khaira's review! ![]() It sounds as though the workshops were pretty poorly attended, which makes me very sad. It makes me very angry, actually, that students here flock to workshops with visiting non-Egyptians yet classes with the "real deal" are not as popular as they should be. I think there's an awful lot of "sanitising" here, teachers who use non-Arabic music (Shakira ) and so on. To use one of Maria Aya's favourite comments, GRRRRRRRR! |

I think I was in Lubna's Saaidi with you? (Great performances as well ).- Suheir, funny you should mention people flocking to non-Egyptian workshops, you're the second person to mention that in the last couple of days. I'm tired but very glad I went. It does make me wonder what we could be like with training like that everyday and not just at the odd workshop or our weekly class and pottering about on our own. Ah well. JoY in 2 weeks!!! |
