It was GREAT! Orit is awesome (and I am utterly star struck which is ridiculous really). I did her shimmy workshop - problem is I just ended up watching her while my shimmies went to pieces as usual
. She puts so much life and feeling into her dancing even in the class it was like watching her perform. Magic. Also I went to a class with Miriam Aluan, who I'd never heard of but is another inspirational woman and an incredible dancer. I couldn't go to any of Amel's classes but heard very good things about the trance dance one, and having seen her in the show I can believe it. I did a Melaya workshop with Angela, which was great fun, and we got through a whole choreography. And a tribal taster with Storm, along with a bunch of other "tribal virgins" - she covered lots of moves including explanations of how they differed from the bellydance versions, and how they differed in ATS and Tribal Fusion. I don't think I'm a tribal girl, but it was interesting to have a go and learn about the different styles.I didn't go for the open stage (weedy of me) but everyone was appreciated - I really must do it sometime. And I restrained myself admirably in the bazaar, just got the veil to go with a skirt I bought in the summer. They belong together, I felt it was cruel not to reunite them... And the show was FANTASTIC. I have got to get the DVD of this one. Miriam puts a song across like no one I've ever seen - you didn't need to understand the words because you could see the feeling. And Orit did a wonderful full length finale with all the trimmings and had everyone up and dancing. And the good news is that Orit says she's coming for the summer Brighton Orient. And Mahmoud Reda. Can't wait.... where's my diary? ![]() Last edited by Aniseteph; 11-21-2006 at 08:40 PM. Reason: Mini review added! |

Brighton is too cool to do justice in a post, I'll tell you what, when you come down to London we'll go to Brighton too so you can see it and Aniseteph can meet us there - what do you say, ladies?!
Aniseteph, you must let me know when the summer brighton orient is, if it's not online it doesn't really register on my radar! Next year is looking pretty quiet on the belly dance front, especially seeing as Raqs Britannia is going to Blackpool of all faraway places. |

Ooh, never been to Blackpool.... (frozen North IMO
).Elle, I'll PM you Maayan's email so you can go on her mailing list. The summer one is 6th, 7th and 8th July. I also picked up a flyer for a weekend in March (17th and 18th) in Littlehampton, organised by Khaled Mahmood , with Aida Nour, Tito (2 stick technique anyone - sounds lethal to me!) and Lubna Emam. PM me if you're interested and I'll pass on details.(and our student show, now in its second fabulous year, is in late July. We're learning one dance already ) |
