Electrolytes = basically a mix of salts and sugars that you dissolve in water or take in gel form (which is really gross).
When you're running for awhile, especially in hot weather, you lose a lot of salts (electrolytes) as you sweat, and it gets to the point where you lose so much that even if you drink water is doesn't hydrate you - your body just can't absorb the water because you have lost all those salts. In geeky science terms, it changes the osmotic balance: the water doesn't get pulled in from less salty (the water itself in your large intestine) to more salty (your bloodstream, where your body can use it). You can get really really dehydrated that way, even though you're drinking water. So in order to stay hydrated in those conditions, you need to take electrolytes as well as water. Again, too much information! Today I bought groceries including chocolate and ice cream - I'm going to need a treat after I do 8 miles on Sunday, my longest distance yet!

I bought "Sampo". I will try to track down his image to explain.
The grand daughter seized upon him in our "secret" Toyshop that is full of spinning tops, wooden train sets and rag dolls and not a Barbie or electronic gadget in sight. BRIO Sampo the Dog [BRIO-31912] - $8.00 : Kids Scandinavian Shop, Wooden Toys & More |

I saw the costume on the other forum. Gorgeous! No need to blush over the bald thing. Lots of people think the bald eagle is so called because his white head looks bald in contrast with his black feathers.
I bought two bales of woodshavings for stable bedding. Whee! What an exciting purchase compared to Mya's Hanan. I bet her heart is just sick with envy. ![]() |
