Sounds a little like my family Gia! My mom is Catholic, my adopted dad is Jewish, my husband is Methodist, two of my best friends growing up were Buddist, so of course I'm neo-pagan. We share and celebrate almost every holiday- lots of presents!

I'm still seeking to get Divali added to the Christian calender I love that festival... I want it to be added to Catholicism (we did it with Yule and others)
I'm slowly planning my strategy I get the feeling the Pope may be a lil' resistant...

That's why for me it's never a matter where to pray. We all pray to one God. And when I'm in Turkey I go to jami and pray with muslim women, when here, in Russia if I feel like going to church I go there. I can also go to jewish or any other church- I just don't care. I can easily be called as muslim( I don't eat pork. Just because it tastes really awfully and unhealthy), I don't kill, I don't still, I don't cheat and I am not involved in adultry- general & basic " don't-s" for every religion I think. That's my point of view. I don't care wich religion is supposed to be "last" and right and wich religion is supposed to be " first" and also right, I don't care who tells what. Anyways, we all cannot be sure who is right now- when people die they go somewhere and they realise where the truth is. But they cannot come back to tell it to us, right? Nor they can give us a message saying " people! the right religion is this"? for example. So I think that all debates about with religion is right and wich is not are useless. For me it doesn't matter what religion I am. I read all religious books, I sum everything and try to gather common things for all those books. This is supposed to be the very truth, if it's written almost in all books. So that's what my religion is.
What do U guys think on this subject?
it is so wonderful to see this discussion. and be able to actually call it a discussion. yay!

raised catholic, i've found lately that i don't think it's fair for a religion to say that someone who doesn't believe the same way, is gay, made some stupid choices, etc. is damned for all of eternity. kinda done with the organized religion thing.

my god is a forgiving one. and one who wants everyone to live a whole and happy life, to treat others (and ourselves) with respect and love, and to learn from others, as well as teach. my god wants us to succeed, so he put as many religions out there as he could so that everyone had the chance to find their own spirituality.

though i do believe the religion should not be blamed for being misunderstood, or for the actions of a few imbiciles.

My, there are a lot of heathens here, but what I have to ask is heathen to some just a mid way point before finding what is the actual truth to a person.

I identify as pagan, and that paganism hovers between a mix of buddhism, hinduism and my thoughts on Gaia and our relationship with her. Some Tao wanders in there from time to time. But my identity as pagan is mainly just to avoid the set descriptions assigned to whatever relgion.

These days I find what is done in the name of religion (and has been done) abhorrent but I still think that the great thinkers and do-ers like Jesus Christ and Mohammed said a lot that was worth adherring to. I beieve in the teachings of Christ but am quite happy to think of him as a man. In fact happier to think he may have married, had a family , been an ordinary but extra ordinary human being.
I would say I am a spiritual person who hopes there is a God/Creator but i! am getting increasingly irritated by and dismissive of institutional religion.
What a fascinating thread! I was born C of E, but never practiced or went to church as it all felt alien and wrong to me. I don't consider myself of any religion now. But I do consider myself spiritual. I don't believe in religion, as I feel it is a human tool used to control the masses and has little to do with the Divine. There have been more wars and deaths in the name of religion than I care to think about.

I do believe in angels, and work closely with them as a Reiki practitioner, including the Christ consciousness. Do they help us? Yes, but only if we ask. How many people actually believe in angels and spirit guides? Not so many as you may think. Yet so many of us are 'conditioned' to believe in the God of our particular religion. I personally find the majority of religions institutions that shackle and maintains its power over people via fear and so called retribution. There are three fundamental things that if adhered to, would eliminate so much suffering in this world. Love. Light. Forgiveness. Why can't we all adhere to that? Because we are all at different levels of spiritual development, and we all have free will.
