I've been thinking about doing that, Amri. Mostly because I have no one here to get feedback from, and it would be nice to have someone say, 'that was lovely' or even 'what are you doing?!?!?' lol

Definitely would have the comments disabled, though. Perhaps I'll make that a project soon. I do have access to a vid camera here. heehee

Phoebedances Good for you, Phoebe! Can't wait to watch your video And it's very good that U have an access for camera there.. My situation is very interesting.. I have an elder sister who works as a camera girl and also an editor( wedding shooting), but she has her camera only right before she goes to shoot smth, and she gives it back to her boss right after the wedding.. So she has no chance to bring it home. That's what we call in russia" a shoeman without shoes" LOL. Neways, we will comment on your video here. U just holler when it's on youtube. And definately make comments disabled

I'll let you guys know. Thank you Artemocion Malta.

Amri, the Russian Shoeman with no shoes is funny, I'll remember that. At least when you do get to make one you have someone who knows what they are doing.

First of all welcome to the forum! I took Flamenco and Bellydance from the same teacher and I will say that Flamenco was the harder of the two for me, but very exciting and I think the strong arms and upper body carriage of Flamenco helps to make a stronger all around dancer.

I stopped Flamenco, though because it was very hard on my right foot right where my big toe is. I would have a stabbing pain when I would do the stamps on the ball of the foot. I miss doing it though, and I love mixing Flamenco and Middle Eastern Dance into Fusion pieces. Maybe now I could go back to it, my feet are stronger now, I think than they were then.

Thanks Phoebe! Who did you study Flamenco with? I'm sorry to hear about your foot. I had a really cheap pair of shoes that bothered my feet when I started because I wasn't sure if I wanted to make the financial commitment of a nicer pair of shoes until I knew I was going to stick with it for a while. When I upgraded to a better shoe, I couldn't believe the difference. It's too bad nicer shoes aren't available at more stores in the states... it's such a gamble to order online.

Amri, Your hip-hop fusion sounds really interesting. I love what Unmata, Ebony, and Urban Tribal have done with incorporating hip-hop into bellydance. Would love to see some video clips!

Best, ~Zanbaka

I studied with Faten Ali Munger - an Egyptian lady who was my Belly Dance Teacher too when I lived in Indianapolis, IN. She had spent some time in Spain learning Flamenco there and every year would go back and take lessons. She actually bought our Flamenco shoes over there and they were comfortable to wear, except that one issue. Maybe someday I'll try another pair and see if that was the case.

I've heard of Faten! A lovely dancer by the name of Angela Prato, who I met in Columbus when I was there teaching a workshop last July and she spoke very highly of Faten. I hope I get the chance to see her dance one day!

Default Flamenco and Belly Dance

Flamenco is an inspiration and great basis for Spanish Fusion. Infact Our Dance school also offers Spanish Fusion and every year we bring a foreign Flamenco dancer to give a workshop on Flamenco . We all love it and the benefits of it are great! Infact bringing a Flamenco teacher has helped the students of Spanish fusion greatly in their study of this field since Spanish fusion is so closely related to Flamenco .

Flamenco and Belly Dance are amazing styles , and fused together seems like a marriage made in heaven .

I am glad that some one did mention Flamenco too ! the more styles we include in this thread the broader our knowledge will become!
