I started with Egyptian dance through Egyptian friends and this was way before I went to classes.
I went to one class for a short time and it was terrible, she knew nothing and made it up as she went along (still does). I then went to the women who taught her for a brief time and she showed me the real basics and was very good at this. There was not much variety at this time and everything was just called 'Belly dance'. I did not learn about individual styles til I studied with Wendy Buonaventura who did mostly Egyptian and other North African styles. I had a friend who was a dancer in restaurants and she did only Turkish, I loved her and what she did, but it was too high energy for me personally. |

have been watching tons of videos on you tube and seeing which styles are what etc and I definatley prefer Egyptian. I love Rachel Brice but I do get a little bit sick of watching just her when I type in tribal to youtube! She is one clever lady but no point what so ever in me watching her coz i will never in a zillion years be able to move my body as freakishly (bad grammar i know!) as she does!
