Indeed a bellyroll WITH a glute squeeze is a tall order and not what I am after.
I need to get them down separately before even thinking about trying them together!! jenc...I had taken lessons for 6 months about 2 years ago (lessons) then couldn't afford the lessons anymore and switched to videos. I just started back like a month ago. I don't expect to be perfect right this second I was just trying to find some tips! Thanks again for the help. |

Here's one I use (I must get some diagrams and get it up on my site)
Lie on your back, one leg bent and the other leg turned out at the hip* with the ankle resting on the first leg's thigh (just above the knee). Bring the first leg towards your chest (to start with pushing against a door is helpful). Stop at the point where you can feel it. Breathe. With such a big muscle, you need to hold it a long time - maybe 30 seconds before feeling the softening which means you can push it a little further. * if you cannot get a decent hip turn out this stretch is of limited value as it will catch in the hip joint rather than glutes. |

hi all
I've been bellydancing for 6 to 7 months now ... can someone explain in more details what is a glute squeeze? I can't seem to catch up ... about bellyrolls, all I started with just tucking in and then totally relaxing my stomach ... then doing push-ups ... my primer problem is that I am not sattisfied with my lower abdomenal muscles, so i try to work them out more ... takes a lot of concentrating to separate it all into a roll ... also a problem i have now is that I can do it from my left side infront of the mirror, but when I turn I get totally confused XD |

Hi, dancingbtrfly, welcome to the forum. I was going to try to give you a link to Shira's page on learning how to do bellyrolls, but something's up with this computer; sorry! I hope the main link to her site will work; it won't be hard to find the page on bellyrolls:shira - Yahoo! Search Results Hope the link (and the advice) will help you. ![]() Awww, geez, it just takes you to the search page. *slaps forehead* If you'll click on the "Art of Middle Eastern Dance" search result, you'll get there. ^^;; Last edited by Farasha Hanem; 05-28-2008 at 02:45 AM. |

Suhaila does the splits horizontally, then she squeezes her glute muscles, one cheek at a time. I think this is an exercise that she developed; you can find it on YouTube:

I have bad news. I heard from someone, somewhere (can't remember where though) that Shira passed on a little while ago. I think it deserves some more research but I'm to lazy/bussy to do it. But that would explain why the site is down.
