I agree with jenc here. I think the dances can be confused (I had someone ask me to teach hula, for instance, to kids this summer because bellydance seemed too lascivious and they didn't seem to realize that I didn't know how to hula just because I was from Hawai'i and was a bellydancer).

Secondly, I don't understand why people don't see hula as a potentially scandalous dance and bellydance to be so. There are several hulas specifically about making love...strange how things are viewed so differently.

YouTube - Chinese Ballet Circus pas de deux troupe du Guangdong

It's not just belly dance that causes contraversial fusing in the art community.

I've been called by people looking for hula performaces too. What a very strange assumption. I know nothing about performing hula although I saw a lot when I lived on Oahu and enjoy it very much.

Hi Jane, Thanks for the clip! That was very beautiful......
I'm amazed at the epressive range of the human body. Even, the male displayed tremendous amout of strength and steadiness.

How's this for pointless fusion - It doesn't look very 1940's to me (as A big 40s film fan. If can't be Fred astaire I'll settle for being a BD)
And the costumes....................

No, I didn't get a 40's vibe either. Big white flares say Elvis to me... (or should that be flare?).

Hmm. Those costumes are horrendously unflattering. I see no '40s, either.

Jane-

Wow you lived in Oahu! I never spent much time there.

I've been asked several times about hula; seems people see some connection between it and bellydance...or it could be just because I lived in Hawai'i.

I spent three years stationed at Kaneohe, MCAS. I never visited any other islands, I was always working/on call or my husband was This was way before I started belly dance!

I found it amusing made me laugh. It's not what we usually think of as fusion is it? It was two separate dances and therfore to my mind not a truly successful fusion. What we normally think of as fusion, is the same dancer or dancers doing moves from one or more styles. However, I was just going to post the question
"What do you think CAN'T be fused with BD and Irish step dancing was on my list. I am now left with Japanese formal dance.
seriously, I don't think that Irish dance can be fused with BD by the same performer. what else can't be fused
