Default What about Tribal?

Is everybody here really attached to the glittery side of BD styles? Is anybody here interested in Tribal style at all?

Just curious, because I haven't really seen very many people mention it.

If so, who are your favorite dancers and why? Who are your least favorite and why?

Amber, I am 2 years new to belly dancing so I just practice what is taught in lessons. However, there are many members here who are into Tribal. Rachel Brice is talked about quite often

I am quite interested in Tribal, but I am too new to BD to make any decisions about what style I wish to study. However, I just saw a performance by a local woman (local to Boston, that is) named Ela Enchanting who did the most stunning example of Tribal I have ever seen. She took my breath away.

I adore the tribal style and can't wait to start learning it. It's funny because personality wise, I come across as someone who would do pure raqs or maybe cabaret style. But something about Tribal just attracts me to no end. If there was a Goddess and she danced, I believe she would dance in the Tribal style.

I am very very new.... (3 months of lessons) Id like to get all the basics down too before I "pigeonhole" myself into a style.... However, I just find Tribal to be so "me" I figure thats probably the style Ill move right into. I just kind of naturally move that way when I dance so that will probably be the one I go to.

hey Amber, I'm a tribal style dancer taking regular classes in ATS, and I'm currently in melbourne doing an intensive with Rachel Brice.

I don't really have any least favourite dancers, but my favourites in no particular order are The Indigo, Carolena and FCBD, Ariellah and Devi Mamak and Melusina from here in australia. These are the only my favourites of those I've had exposure to. I'd really like to learn the BSBD format too.

what about you?

I dance both Egyptian style and Tribal in troupes.
We call ourselves tribal fusion as we don't (as yet) improvise.
I teach both Egyptian and "trad" ATS.
My favouite are FCBD and Gypsy Caravan and Domba ( when they were dancing) and the British Isles troupe Rashani.
I am not as enamoured by Rachel Brice Wannabees although I do admire the lady herself! Nor by "way out of the envelope" fusion.
