Hi there, i use always a veil in my shows....
I always perform in Arabic country,s
I use a veil cape to enter the stage on Malfuf ritme you can see that in one of my video clips that i posted on you tube...just look for my name and ,,entrance to stage ,,clip
Than i always use another veil in another color and design for the music after the entrance
This is usefull for me because my entrance is never less than 10 minutes so the veilroutine is handy to catch back my breath
I usely pick a piece of music around 3 minutes for the veil because i dont want the fire and happy atmosphere to drop that i bilt up in my entrance,so around 3 minutes is just the correct time for me
usely the music is nice and ,,flowy,, like the veil itself
Veilwork is higly appreciated in the places where i perform and its also the time when everybody takes out the camera from the bags to have a little souvenir...
At the end of the veilroutine i usely give the veil to a audiance member like young girls or lady,s and they are always very happy to take hem home
It happens that people tell me after years that the dauther still has the veil hanging in her room.........have a nice day Lydia

Hi Lydia,
What a great idea! You must be giving away veils everyday. Every household in Dubai should have a veil by now. LOL. I useally take one or two hip wraps and when I dance with the audience, I give them to the best dancer/s.

Good onya Lydia! If you ever come to Hong Kong, I will take you to a place near the China border where you can get veils for 3 - 5 Us dollars each, sometimes silk. When I have guest teachers from overseas, they visit this place and fill up their suitcases with veils!!! LOL

May I have a jack russel instead?

Hi Bloom, Jack Russells are very good classical ballet, Irish, and russian folk dancers, but I don't think they are good at oriental.

So we would need Arabic or Turkish dogs for bellydance? But what if those dogs have grown up in another country? Would they still be Arabic or Turkish enough? What about Jack Russells that grew up in Egypt?
To be honest, not being a dog person I hope this new prop will not make it Just imagine all those hairs on your costume!

Lydia, I'm sure you're inspiring a lot of those girls to become bellydancer one day

Given that Bast and Bastet are cat gods in ancient Egypt, do you think that the cat would be a more appropriate prop? You guys crack me up!!! Lydia can I pleeeeease come and watch you and Janaki dance and get a new veil? pleeeeease?

Back to the question (hikjackers! must be the season...!)
So where did the Isis wings come in? Who brought them into the dance? I must admit they look cool - but are they really bellydance?
I mean, surely veil and isis wings are fusion of a sort?

veil-really-belly-dance-latest-prop.jpg
Sorry, when there's a cat involved, resistance is futile...
