O.k. Well, the Greek Americans have developed a culture of their own, which is partially very far away from the Greek culture of Greece today. So sometimes there are quite some misunderstandings between America and Greece Greeks And American Greeks usually get a kind of culture shock when they visit Greece, because it has nothing to do with the Greece they heard about from their Grand parents.

Cryssanthi and Maria, I really love you! It is so good that you always tell your opinions honestly. As you have already observed with "Greek bellydance" what people outside of Greece think as Greek bellydance or tsiftetelli can be very different same way as what is thought about Turkish bellydance and karsilama in Turkey... problem with karsilama (or terrible misspelling kashlimar) is that most people in Turkey do not think this rhythms as karsilama as karsilama is one specific folkdance - and as I told you before there are so many different styles and dances that can be danced with 9/8 that it is no wonder even most serious Turkish dance fans get confused

Ok found various styles/types of Karsilama danced from Greeks, various ages, and from various places of Greece. It is a confusion

From Thraki-Evros, borders with Turkey

From Lesvos Island

And this is from Lesvos again, the type of Karsilamas that is more familiar to me

Yes, I'm planning to do this for my next summer show. I'll dance together with a Turkish student of mine (Karsilama actually is always danced in pairs) the song "Rampi Rampi" (Rompi Rompi), which used to be the favorite song of my grandpa We'll create our own Greek-Turkish Karsilama and I'll surely put it on youtube Just be a bit patient and you'll see
