How does "Male Dance" become a category? I've learnt Egyptian Raqs Sharqi and folk from men. Men basically dance the same as women. There are a couple of folkloric styles which traditionally are male or female (eg Tahtib and Meleya Lef) - but on the whole I wouldn't say that "male" dancing is a whole category!

I agree. If it was a seperate dance style I would love to take a workshop on "male dance" some day! And don't say male dance is only for men!

Unfortunately, as the OP aknowledged, this list isn't entirely sensical. It is just her interpretation.

I don't do American Tribal Style, but it is the only group improv represented on the list.

I would not say that Rachel Brice dances to Middle Eastern music primarily. And I would categorize her and Ariellah's style the same.

So I chose "other"!

I am sorry about that! I really know nothing about men belly dancing, I just have seen some folkloric dances like with sticks and others I have seen did not dance different from the ladies....

I was actually hoping that some dancing gentleman would explain the differenece!

Tribal Fusion for sure! I enjoy watching it the most and it suits my natural inclinations (meaning when I dance to certain music TF best fits the way I would naturally move).

I like watching Raqs more than I like doing it.

When I started learning about BD and practicing I noticed that I was always watching the Egyptian style dancers. I really like watching Egyptian style.

Over the short amount of time that I've bee learning and practicing I've noticed that I am gravitating toward the various Tribal styles. I like a pinch of fast here and there but I really like the slower earthier movements.

I'm still not sure what the differences between the various Tribal Styles are but I'm learning. (American Tribal, Tribal Fusion (Rachel Brice) and Tribal Fusion (Ariellah & Sera))

Occasionally I get tired of the Middle-Eastern music and just drill to something else.

Is the music what differentiates the Tribal styles *OR* is it the music *AND* the moves that make the various tribal styles what they are? Hmmmm.....

My favorite style is Egyptian, because that's what I was exposed to first.
