I'm so new to the dance that I am still trying to recognize the elements of the different styles. So far, I love them all, but my instructor is American Cabaret, so that's got to be my pick for now!

Although I enjoy Cabaret, Tribal and its fusions, I have to say that Egyptian is my absolute favorite. It took me a while to "get it" but I'm glad that happened. The emotion and music are sometimes enough to bring me on the verge of tears. (hope that did not sound too sappy

I started with Classical Egyptian, which I do like, but I am most interested in Turkish, Lebanese and Tribal Fusion (al la Rachel Brice)...At least for now...I go to different shows and seminars and there's always one dancer that can spark your inerest. That's how I have started studying and enrolling in classes for other styles.

I love to watch all styles when they are done well. Lately I am really in to watching Egyptian clips online and I really respect great Egyptian dancers. I think my favorite styles to watch are folkloric and well-done Tribal, but I would usually rather watch a mediocre Orientale dancer than a mediocre Tribal dancer because I have seen so many Tribal performances...
My favorite Tribal dancer is actually not Rachel Brice but Jill Parker. I think she is amazing. |
