Hi
A new American Tribal Dance class is starting up near me soon and I was thinking of joining it. I would like to hear your opnions of it? Are you doing it now and how hard is it compared to Arabic/Egyptian belly dance? I would have liked to have gone to the taster eve but cannot go so I have to make my mind up and sign up quickly before all the places get taken, so really need your opnions to help me decide please. I have to sign up for 12 weeks so if I don't like it I'm stuck with it and I don't want to take someone elses' place who really wants to do it. Also what are the costumes like, any pics? I thought I could get something over the hols that might work for both belly dancing and tribal. Thanks in advance Wiggly |

Whether you should sign up for the class really depends on what you are looking for in a dance form...
You may want to check out Fat Chance Bellydances website as they are the troupe credited for developing this form to see if you like the general aesthetic. Their website includes a brief history, scrapbook of photos of the group (opportunity to see the costumes) and at least one demo videoclip. You can find them at www. fcbd . com They have a number of clips on youtube.com as well. I tried to attach one but I am technically challenged. If you search for "Fat Chance Belly Dance" you will find some. Other groups have taken this style and added their own personal stamp on it. You may find your local American tribal troupe has a different style. My understanding is a lot of the dancers who love this style are into the group dynamic or synergy and I am not sure the feeling they get from the group/tribe translates to a videoclip.
