Not sure, but maybe tunisian or ghawazee or tunisian ghawazee (is there such a thing?)? Saw her live last year. She had just an amazing stagepresence and a great band that wouldn´t stop playing

It is tunisian costume. It must be tunisian folklore dance. Ghawazee costume consists of a Ghawazee coat worn over a blouse, harem pants with a hip wrap.

Default Costume, etc.

DearMisMIra,
The costume looks sort of Ouled Nail from around the turn of the century ( Algerian). Look up Ouled Nail on the net and see if you get any authentic photos. the cane... to my knowledge they did not use sticks or canes in their dances, but I could be wrong. I think Leila Haddad does do some fusion work, but I HOPE she is not fusing cane and O.N.
Regards,
A'isha

Yes, the costume definitely resembles Ouled nail. Tks A'isha for your input. I should look at the picture carefully. Little bit slow on the thinking side. Booze overdose from last night. Still suffering!!!

A'isha, I took Leila's ON workshop at RakWest and she was very excited about adding a cane to her ON, based on dancing she saw in Algeria raifly recently.

Dear Latifa,
It could be a recent innovation. Thanks for the info.

A'isha

The cane is used in a very distictive way -- no twirling or framing like raqs al assaya. I'm sure this will be included in her Rak East workshop too. So, A'isha, no need to worry about fusion.
