You should really check out this thread Janaki! http://forum.orientaldancer.net/danc...y-fusions.html
A lot of us came up with made up names for weird fusion dances, but some of us also found the most weird and horrible clips! |

Dear Janaki, Daily there seem to be more ridiculous things done in the name of belly dance. The latest one that I am aware of is Zombie Belly Dance. So sick to turn something that is wonderful, vital and human into such a disgusting parody. Regards, A'isha |

Do you have a link? I would love to see!
(I saw a horrible Dracula ballet once...little bits of it were good, but the choreography for the brides of Dracula was terrible! They danced with their arms out in stereotypical zombie posture, very dull and long dances. I was very disappointed, because I really liked the idea for the ballet) |

I am finding I am pretty much a traditionalist. I saw two folks in funky costumes, white fluffy skirts, black knee high boots, black and white stripped stockings, black bras and i'm not sure what else doing some belly dance moves to Tijuana Taxi. I believe it was a tribal fusion group. Although it was cute, it was far enough away for me to be uncomfortable calling it belly dance. I am ok with the term fusion alone but not belly dance. Its just me and i'm not against folks doing their own thing, just prefer the general label fusion be used.

Dear da Sage, It is in the costuming forum, post #28 under "Dancing in your underwear". At least Ballet traditionally tells a story and therefore, Dracula can actually be a theme for a ballet, where it has no place in belly dance. Regards, A'isha |
