I was more entertained watching the 3 and 4 year old baby ballerinas dancing this past weekend at the San Diego County Fair. At least they weren't pretentious, and were adorably cute.
Hey Rico,

Guess what's worse than trying to bring bellydancing to the General Public?

Following a bunch of adorable 3-4 year old kids on stage. Talk about a hard act to follow!

p.s. for Amulya...Leia's bum is *supposed* to be hanging out. That's the whole point of the costume!

Sometimes people think they are doing belly dance when they are really doing belly flops.

She seems to be in a fairly large, open space, but isn't taking advantage of it...

I remember seeing Aziza at Rakkasah a few years back, and what struck me, aside from her obvious great technique, was her effective use of the stage. She was on the main stage, and used every inch of it, it seemed.

Yep THAT... it's so weird. And the lady who invented it copyrighted it! She chased someone on Bhuz who used the same name for her dance style.

LOL Moon: Last edited by Moon : Yesterday at 11:59 AM. Reason: found more crap.. I mean "modern bellydance"

That's so funny and true!

Dear Moon,
.... Did anyone actually see her copyright documentation?? I have been under the impression from a seminar I took on copyrighting intellectual property that first, copyright laws are not international and that many countries do not have agreements. Secondly, that dance movements and styles are not copyrightable, ( if that's not a word it should be!!). Dancers can copyright choreographies and perhaps a method of teaching dance, but not a style of dance or individual dance movements, to my knowledge...??? Have I missed something, or is it different in U.K???
Regards,
A'isha

This really works for me, except that it has a really slow start. The action starts at around 1:40.

Dear A'isha,

I think you meant to address Amulya
Anyway, I don't know anything about copyrighting regulations. I believe it was a Dutch lady who invented the style?

Dear Moon and Group,
I want to apologize for getting my names mixed up; a thing I am doing with some frequency these days. It makes me a BIT paranoid because I had a TIA stroke a few years ago that lasted about 45 minutes, and that seems to have left me with a bit of a directional challenge. I know which way I want to go but have a hard time talking about it! I also frequently write my name with the letters in the wrong place..... I hope it is not spreading!!! Anyway, I hope you will all bear with me and accept my apologies. (I HOPE I am just getting absent minded in my mid-50s!!)
Regards,
A'isha
