This poor woman! It's a bit tragic and I've seen some of her other videos
![]() ![]() but I kinda wish she were here to defend herself against all these apparent crimes against bedlah...

There was another thread where Suheir delved into her UK belly dance bucket of knowledge
and found an article where she did defend herself.I think everyone would be a bit kinder if these were just random "here's me dancing" clips off YouTube, but they are off her own site promoting herself as, among numerous other things, a professional bellydancer and bellydance teacher. If people are being taught that this is what belly dance is all about... . IMO this is exactly the sort of thing that is stopping people taking this dance form seriously - presenting it to the public and students with goddessy right to self-expression a-plenty, and not enough emphasis on skill, artistry and respect.(ooh I'm cruel. Better get out those flame-proof undies) |

Dear Group,
She is just one tiny example of the many, many reasons that people do not take belly dance seriously. I would hate for people like her to take all the blame since it is also people like US who do not take care of the dance on various levels as well. We need to stop laying the blame on others and act responsibly ourselves. Selling it like sex is not the only denominator that shames the dance and dancers, but it seems to be the one that offends dancers the most, for some reason. For me, this is not worse than putting on a kilt and dancing "belly dance" to Scottish music, dancing on stilts or any other of the various and sundry parlor tricks I have seen happen in the name of belly dance. It ALL demeans the dance if it lays claim to what it is not. She is no worse than others. Regards, A'isha |

I agree, it's never going to be accepted as a serious dance form when certain individuals are claiming it's a mystic force of the space-time continuum and it's fine to show your butt cheeks and make porn faces, it's empowering, innit? |

Slight clarification - I wasn't getting the irate emoticons out about the one clip, it was the ethos of the whole site that set me off, exactly what I don't want anyone to think I am doing or aspiring to.

Aye we had an whole thread dedicated to this one. I'm sure really's a really nice person but she's a bit of a naughty belly dancer.
![]() http://forum.orientaldancer.net/othe...aughty+dancing I like the song big spender. I sung it at Sir John Peels and won the Kareokee competition and got a free glass of vadka and lime. ![]()
