Cute, but definitely using schtick to cover up lack of technique and synchronicity. I would have liked it more had it been executed with a bit more skill. Cute though.

Now that I think about it, a Goth version of Giselle might be interesting... zombies instead of willies.
Wilis, not willies! I just got a VERY weird mental image, thank you Shanazel . Perhaps willies doesn't have the same connotations in the US as in the UK. (Oh grow up...)

Giselle is very goth IMO, all those ghostly wraiths. I once saw a modern version set in an asylum that was amazing - hooked to the telly way past bedtime then boring husband stupid about it type amazing. As for Swan Lake I thought the Matthew Bourne version with the male swans was awesome, much more compelling than yet another pained-looking enchanted ballerina with swansdown on her head. Those swans were scary...

Enuf pontificating about ballet, back to bellydance. Just went YouTubing and found a bit of Giselle that I'm bellydancing in my chair to. It's so wrong, but....

LOL! Me too! But I decided not to comment on it because I don't know Giselle.

The Wilis are ghosts of jilted brides who died before their wedding night, and any poor bloke who they get hold of is made to dance till he dies. (Get over yourselves girls...)

If they are Willies it brings some very peculiar symbolism to the whole thing which quite frankly I don't want to think about too deeply. Not to mention doing the general romantic/poetic ambience no favours whatsoever.

I am shocked, simply SHOCKED by the way your minds work. Tsk. When one gets the willies in the southern US it simply means a shivery eery feeling, aka : a goose stepped over my grave.

Back a hundred years ago,The Nutcracker with Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland was aired on TV. Though my mother didn't care for ballet, she watched it without a word until it got to the part where the nutcracker is riding his stick horse and doing magnificent leaps into the air. Then she murmured, "Oh. That's why they call it The Nutcracker Suite."

You can say something gives you the willies over here too, just the same meaning. There's just the risk that some immature types start making silly double entendres...

Anyone got any fusion to get this thread back on track again?

I danced tonight at a hafla and there was a new type of fusion there. One i'd never seen before. It was a fusion of the charleston and belly dance although to me it looked very 20's without any real belly dance. It was cute and interesting and definitely fusion.
