i do latin and flamenco. i started classical indian but wasn't able to continue for too long because final year of uni was a pain. i'll be starting it back soon though.
We've done bellydance fusion with all those different styles as well as hip hop, tap and our version of tribal which is influenced by actual african dance taught to our troupe director by another that performs west and north african dance here.

Greek folk dancing. I've been doing that WAY longer than Belly Dance - and am better at it than Belly Dance too.

It was through my teaching a Greek dance class that I had my first real exposure to Belly Dance - and fell in love with it immediately!

Hi Shimmy, I think you should be able to target all ages with a mixed style dance for fitness, promote the fun side with the added benefit of getting fit at the same time.

Since starting BD and getting on great with it I have decided I would like to learn other forms of dance too. I'm looking at possibly learning American Tribal soon and am trying to persaude my husband to learn Samba. I would love to learn Flamenco too. ONE DAY! Talk about second childhood. Who would have thought it five years ago I would be like this.

By the way any one know of any really good DVD's that could teach you Brazillian Samba?

My husband isn't up to going to a class yet even if we could find one down here in Cornwall

Before I started belly dance, I was dancing ballrom and latin dances for 12 years.I was competing and then teaching for a few years.I also did classical ballet when I was a kid, I did three years of folklore dances and I attented one school for modern dance for a while. But then I started oriental dance and I didn't want to hear about anything else, cause I completely fell in love with it!!!!:-)

I did ballet, tap, and jazz as a youngster (also was a bad gymnast in high school, but loved it!). As an adult, I've mostly studied bellydance (mostly AmCab, American Tribal Style, and Tribal fusion. I've taken a few Afro-haitian classes (and loved it!!), hooping, and poi.

Some day (when I have more money lol), I hope to also take hip-hop, modern, and get back to African dancing of some sort.

I also take ballroom and latin dance lessons, and dance socially at least twice a month. (No comps for me, thank you!) I especially love latin movement and music, totally awesome!

Prior to moving to MA, I warmed the floor on many a country club; unfortunately, they're a scarce breed around here. *sniff*

Before starting BD, I wasn't a dancer, but I did a fair bit of yoga. Now I'm also learning ballet, so as to obtain grace and poise. It's also helping with some muscular problems I've been having this year.

Good luck with the class, Shimmy!

Mastodon freak danc-in' and sloth bump Grak's best, besides bel-ly dance. Tont, Grak's fath-er, was clan champion in sabertooth shuf-fle, but that before Grak's time.

I don't really do other stuff regularily, but I do try to go for as many introductory classes of different styles as possible. And to look at as many different dance performances as possible. I find it amazing how belly dance has turned me such a fanatic of dancing in general

I am trying to take up a regular hip hop class this autumn. Keep your fingers crossed, as my schedule already look awfully stuffed

Dear Maariku,
I also find that I am attracted to other forms of dance as far as going to all kinds of different dance shows, etc. About half the dance performances that I attend in any given year do not have any Middle Eastern dance in them.
Regards,
A'isha
