Maybe its just me being a sucker for modern cabaret styles. Tribal and traditional folk dance never got to me.
And i'm not really that well aquainted with Fifi. So I cant pass comment wheather or not i'm keen on her style. Old or new But You might want to look at this. I love the costume and the choriography. Enjoy! YouTube - Bellydance - Fifi Abdo |

Dear Firelily,
That was Fifi some years ago. She is and always has been georgeous, but now she is quite a bit heavier and is not dancing as much. I am going to see her dance in Dallas with her next month. She now has back problems I hear. She was at one time THE highest paid belly dancer in the world. My Egyptian friends tell me she is very generous and loved by the Egyptian people because she feeds everyone in the area of the city where she was born during Ranadan and makes other contributions directly to the people. It is quite popular to get voice training in Egypt when women get rich, in order to speak in higher, more refined tones. Fif has refused to follow this trend, saying she is an ordinary person and will stay that way. ( I might add here that she has somewhat of a crass reputaion, but I think she thrives on it!! During Ramadan, she hosts a talk show that is a riot!! I think she has always had great costumes, too. But I should also add here that this costume style is very old fashioned now. It's probably about 25 years old. Regards, A'isha Last edited by Aisha Azar; 04-13-2007 at 03:00 PM. |

Fifi remains my favorite dancer. She is who she is. She is bent al balad. One of the people. She never tried to rise above anyone. She learned this craft and was an inovator. One of her best peroformances was in a play where whe does this amzaing cane dance while carrying a shisha. it's classic fifi , in Galabiya and everything! As I've already said my fave dance is a dance in a white and blue costume in the movie forbidden on the wedding night. Nagwa Fouad was in the movie also, but Fifi came only to dance and boy did she!
Nagwa is a queen on stage and Fifi can pull you into the music and make you get up to join in. She has amazing control and fierce expression. very powerful dancer. |
