As you all know when fifi began acting most of her roles were dancing roles as producers were aware that people would pay just to see her dance. The movie in which she does my faovrite performance was Forbidden on the Wedding night. It's an Adel Imam Movie. I found it at arabic dvds. com. The other performance was her Baladi dance in the Galalbiya in the play Hazmini Ya( loosley translated, "tie a hipscarf around me".) she plays a woman whose family home was destroyed by a contracting mogul who has to dance to support herself and her brothers, one of whom is a baladi singer ala Hakim.

Ladies you will tell us about the workshop/ show once you have been wont you?! I am incredibly jealous, you are so lucky! I hope this means she will start to do more workshops in other parts of the world....come to the UK fifi we love you!!!
I am sorry to hear that she has back problems...is it due to the dancing dare i ask?? We have all got to be so careful, I get the odd twinge in my back, although have started to do some yoga which is helping me get a proper stretch so has been better lately. |

Dear Taheya,
I am not sure about the origin of her back problems, but a lot of older dancers get arthritis and things like that. I think it is an occupational hazard. (You should see some of the stuff that happens to old ballerinas!!) I have arthritis in the place between my heel and the rest of my foot and in my right iliac joint, from 33 years of dancing and over use. It comes with the territory, I think. Last year during Ramadan, Fifi hosted a talk show and I was watching it with some Arab friends and she, I think, mentioned her back problems on the show, or they told me about it. The Arabs keep up on the gossip about their stars just as we do here. I am amazed at how much my freinds here know qabout the stars over there. They keep in touch with relatives and get all the dishfrom home in more ways than one! I have video of Nagwa Fouad performing in Germany and you can see a place on her upper back where she had surgery. Regards, A'isha |

I will be there, as well. I'm a member of the Niraja Dance Company and we'll be dancing in the Friday night show and I'll be taking the workshops, so I hope to see you all there!

I am soooooooo envious that I almost can't stand it. My aunt lives just outside Dallas, and if I hadn't gotten myself messed up on this last vacation, I'd come, too.
Oh, A'isha. let us not talk about what happens to older dancers. Old is always fifteen years older than me, but those fifteen years just seem to get shorter all the time. This is a wonderful video. I am getting more and more interested in Egyptian style, and it just frosts my apricots that I am so far from the nearest teacher I'd like to take lessons from (four hours each way). Such is life in the wild west. |

I am flying out tomorrow, too. I think we will be at the hotel at about 6 PM. I will try to look for you. I THINK our room is booked under Linda Miller. You can give us a call if you like and we can sit together for the Friday show if you do not have other plans. One of my dance company members and some freinds from Dallas will be at our table, too. Regards, A'isha |
