...when I read about it on another board.
quote from http://www.tribalthrowdown.com/workshops.html: ![]() Samantha Riggs "Pirate Bellydance: Why Is The Rum Always Gone?" Pirate Belly Dance is the culmination of Samantha's experience with tribal fusion, stage combat, Bollywood and Bhangra, African fusion, comedy theatre and tall ship sailing. Plus a little bit of madness... or brilliance (it's remarkable how often those two traits coincide). In this class, you'll learn to do drops, spins and shimmies all while keeping your open rum bottle safe! This workshop covers the coordination necessary to transfer a prop from hand to hand as a dancer transitions from fancy footwork to athletic floor work. These skills can be applied to almost any hand-held prop (rum bottles, fire props, swords, etc.) and will also come in handy at your better parties. Please bring a plastic rum (or water) bottle to use as a prop in class and, if you need, knee, ankle, or foot support for floor work and drops. |

Hi Sedonia, It is interesting to see what people come up with nowadays. Personally, I wouldnt be interested in attending such a workshop.

Dear Group,
Can anyone offer an opinion on why this bothers you more than other types of dances calling themselves "belly dance" ? I am always interested in hearing where people draw the line. Is this any worse or any better than any other form calling itself "belly dance" that is not directly from the Middle East? If so, how and why? If not, why not? Is this better or worse than, say, Bellynesian, or American Tribal, or Raqs Gothique?? What is the difference for you, personally? And ...er... what is "Tribal Latin Jazz"????????? Regards, A'isha |

This seems to be movie themed circus skills combined with various dance. At least gothic dancers have an entire subculture behind them, and I've got no problem with fusion (as long as it's done well) seeing as my gene pool (like may others) is one big melting pot...
