I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but why is belly dance a dance that is so susceptible to fusion than other dance forms? Is it because there's so much misinformation about what it is and its origins that people just take whatever they know about it and run off with it? Is it because the majority of the public believes it is nothing more than movement vocabulary and feel that they can do anything with it to any music as long as they keep a few shimmies and hip bumps in?
Discuss?
