Default What are we making now?

It's high time we had a creativity thread, so here's my attempt.
I've made a skirt out of this wonderful fabric that's shot blue/green, lovely flowing stuff, in a long flared skirt. Now I'm making the belt - pix attached. There will be a top as well - at the moment I'm wearing a teal choli, which is nice, but I'm doing a ruched belt, so thought I'd try to make a ruched bra as well, but fairly plain.

I'm sure I'm not the only one creating out there - anyone else keen to show? Not just completed ones, but works in progress.

Oh and while I'm at it, how do you attach the bead drapes to the belt? I'm assuming it needs to be sewn in between the belt lining and the belt, but are there any other ideas?

I meant to add that down the ruching I'm beading green bugle beads horizontally, with blue/green beads down each side. What a way to do my brain injury rehab!!

Thanks Maria - it's a great way to spend time when you're sitting in front of the telly or resting!

Hey Adiemus,

That is a beatiful color. I love the blue/turquoise beading on it. Your are right about attaching beaded fringe. A word of warning, beaded fringe seems to be very delicate and after one show you loose a lot of fringe. I have been there. Now a days I make my own fringe. I make all my costumes. I am planning to make the costume like Samia's in this video. I wanna choose to shades of blue. I am gonna use dark blue velvet for the belt and bra and lighter shade for the skirt. I love the simplicity in this costume. I am planning to add a beautiful crystal appliques on the bras straps and on the in middle centre of the belt. I don't like beaded loops in the belt. When I start my project, I post the pics. Meanwhile goodluck with your new costume.

Oh stunning Maria! I love the older-style costumes, they're so elegant and beautifully flowing (and they don't show all the booby and legs off!!).
I've put supaglue on all the beads of the fringe, along the ribbon and at the ends of each thread. I can bet I'll lose them!!

Adiemus, tht belt looks beautiful, I can't wait to see pics when the whole thing is done!
Unfortunately, I'm a lot like Maria, though I can sew buttons on lol after practising real hard. I'm making my own beaded hipscarf inside my head, but I just can't get started with it. I'd love to learn how to sew. I've got so many ideas but no way to execute them.

Usually I just have things done by a seamstress. She's done a beautiful flowy light blue skirt for me, but the fabric is so fragile it already has a few bumps and scratches here and there. I'm thinking of having her add another one or two layers of fabric, so it'll look like on of those ancient yards-of-chiffon-skirts..

Janaki, I'm really loving Samia's costume. I would love one, with a few crystal appliques or beads here and there though. If I ever come across such a thing... I'd love to get a new costume though. I'll be visiting a Spanish festival this year where Asi is coming (Orit's costume designer). He's pricey but I'm dying to see if he'll bring along something nice for sale.

And I'd love a new baladi r saidi dress sometimes.
