The only satin at the fabric store in my town is really too heavy for bellydance skirts, and they don't have silk at all. Where are some online sources for silk and other fabrics to make bellydance skirts out of?
I just ordered a lightweight silk skirt in turquoise from Moondance, but they didn't have it in white which is what I need right now. Anybody know where some white silk ones with slits are, for around $40? That's what the one from Moondance was priced at, and I figured that was a pretty good price for a silk one. Thanks, Darbla |

Hi Darbla,
Dharma Trading Co is an excellent source for black or white natural fiber fabrics. Their market is customers that are into dyeing fabric. Very nice company to work with. They have lots of fun stuff on their website (or in their catalog). The heaviest silk satin that they offer is still a little sheer but VERY nice hand. You can get small swatches of the silks as well. Happy crafting!

But I have used their 19.5 mm crepe back silk charmeuse (silk satin) and it was very heavy and totally non-sheer. If you want colors but don't want to dye them yourself, you might check out thai silks Thai Silks - Imported Silk Fabrics |

Thai Silk is good. Eloise of Boulder, CO (a high end fabric store) and Phil Lack of Cheyenne, WY ( a silk artist) both order from Thai Silk. Phil recommends them highly (Eloise would prefer you to buy from her, and her shop is indeed an experieince. She flings a bolt of fabric onto the cutting table and whacks off precise yardage without ever measuring!)
