Can you pad the bottom of the bra so your breasts sit a little higher in the cups and take up the slack in the sides? (I am so lazy that I always try the easiest fix first).
Personally, I loath halters because they hurt my neck, but have a problem keeping a regular bra strap up on my left shoulder (don't ask why not the right one, I don't know). I used put a cross strap high up on my back under my hair to connect the regular straps, decorated to look like it belonged there, but now you can buy those invisible straps and do the same thing with less effort. |

Again, I wish I had seen this earlier!
Go to the guild website, and find Laurie's contact information. She specializes in altering bellydance costumes - you should have seen what she did for last year's Jawaahir show! I'm not 100% sure about rush jobs, but it never hurts to ask. She is a great dancer and teacher, too. EDIT: Here is the link Guild of Oriental Dance: Middle Eastern Culture I am recommending Laurie because I know someone who has had her work on vintage bedlah before. She said it was great work, but she paid for it. ![]() I also know Louise and Kristin from that list. They always look great in fabulous, appropriate, and well-fitting costumes, and I would trust them to do any work they felt capable of doing. I assume they fix bedlah, too. I've been wearing one of Kristin's chemises out at fest for the past 2 years, and it fits and wears beautifully - I know Kristin's been doing costuming for a long time. Louise ran a sewing seminar for the guild, and she really knows her stuff, too. Last edited by da Sage; 12-09-2007 at 05:08 PM. |

Regarding the halter style bra.
Last night I was working on one of my costumes. One strap was longer than the other and it just didn't look right. Plus, the sides, just under the armpits were a little saggy. I took the strap off and made a halter out of it and it pulled the sides up and now the bra looks better on me than it did with regular straps. Azeeza |

Well the bra had total meltdown...lost the back clasp and both straps broke on both sides! Luckily one of the girls I was dancing with helped to pin me in there so I wasn't coming out of it, ever! Still, I will have to take it to a real seamstress soon if I want to use it again. I did look up Laurie, actually, and called her...no answer, no return call. I will use her in the future when there is more time before the show though!

OH NO! Did this happen while you were performing?
My dance partner from the past had her halter bra come undone while we were performing! She quickly put her arms close to her breasts to avoid the whole thing from coming off and delicately ran off stage. Azeeza |

No, luckily it happened offstage just before my set! The actual show went fine, costume stayed in place.
